Ages 2-5

30  or 45 minute class of exploring movement and music through dance.

Must be 2 years of age by the first class of the season. Classes are divided out by ages.

All classes include ballet, tap, and

Creative Movement.

Our Twinkle Stars perform in their own Recitals twice a season: Christmas + Spring. The use of props such as “Twinkle Bear,” enables the young dancers to use their imagination, creativity and, most of all, have fun!

BALLET

Ages 5+

A classical form of dance focusing on proper body alignment, graceful movement and precision of steps.  A typical ballet class consists of barre, centre work, and across the floor progressions. Ballet is the foundation of all other forms of dance.

TAP

Ages 5+

One of the most traditional styles of dance characterized by using tap shoes to strike the floor in order to form rhythm, sounds, and patterns. Tap helps dancers to improve their musicality and coordination skills.

JAZZ

Ages 5+

This fun style of dance uses upbeat music and stylized movement to showcase a dancer's personal style. Based on ballet principles, jazz focuses on proper technique and body placement while completing fast footwork, big leaps, and unique steps.

LYRICAL

Ages 6+

Lyrical is an expressive dance form that combines elements from several different genres including modern, jazz, and ballet. Many times this style of dance tells a story, through the choreography, inspired by the lyrics of the song. A foundation in ballet is beneficial as it enhances the quality of movement.

HIP HOP

Ages 6+

This street style of dance incorporates various elements and genres which allow dancers to add their own personalities. This class is inspired by the latest music and trends. Age appropriate music and movement is used for each class.

Dancers with Special Needs

Darby’s Dancers provides an opportunity for children with special needs to participate in the performing arts through dance education.

At once-a-week classes, Darby’s Dancers learn all types of dance in a fun, encouraging atmosphere. Each dancer is paired with a TP student volunteer (buddy) all season in class  and on stage for the Christmas + Spring Recitals.

At Turning Pointe, we offer various styles of classes so each dancer has the opportunity to discover the genre they love and enjoy movement through dance. We believe every genre of dance teaches the basic principles of self-discipline, focus, agility, spacial awareness, and strengthening of motor skills. All classes at Turning Pointe are a safe place for dancers to learn and create! All students have the opportunity to perform in our Year-End Performances.

Age is to be used only as a guideline for placement within each style of dance. Each dancer is invited to take a placement class where a member of the Turning Pointe Staff will determine which class will be the best fit based on level and experience. This is to ensure each child is set up for success!
